Registered association in Finland · Reg. No. 30664502
Suomi-Venäjä-Seura, Kiteen osasto ry brings people together through open dialogue, youth education, cultural exchange and practical local support. We believe that understanding is built face to face, one conversation at a time.

Welcome
Suomi-Venäjä-Seuran – Samfundet Finland-Ryssland Kiteen osasto ry is the Kitee chapter of a Finnish friendship-society tradition that has always rested on a simple idea: societies grow stronger when people know each other as people.
Founded in 2023 and officially registered with the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), our association works at the most local level possible — in school gyms, library corners, church halls and kitchen tables. We host conversations between neighbours who would otherwise never meet, we help children with their homework and their confidence, and we stand beside families who are finding their footing in a new country or a hard season of life.
Our dedication is civic, educational and quietly persistent. We do not chase headlines; we build trust. Every workshop, every language table and every food parcel is part of the same long work: a region where nobody is a stranger for long, and where cultural difference is treated as a resource rather than a fault line.
As a registered association under Finnish law, we hold ourselves to public standards of governance, financial transparency and non-profit purpose. Our doors, our minutes and our accounts are open — because a community that is asked to trust us has every right to inspect us.
To strengthen civic harmony and community wellbeing in Finland by creating spaces for intercultural dialogue, supporting the education of children and young people, and offering practical help to those who need it most.
An inclusive Finland where every resident — whatever their mother tongue or origin — feels they belong, can participate fully in society, and knows a neighbour they can call.
What we do
Each of our program tracks answers a concrete need we see in our communities — and each is measured, reported and improved year after year.
Language tables, neighbourhood meetups and moderated discussion circles that help newcomers and long-term residents understand one another.
Homework support, skill-building sessions and civic engagement projects that give young people confidence, direction and a voice.
Storytelling evenings, exhibitions, music and neighbourhood festivals that keep shared heritage alive and open to everyone.
Practical guidance, community aid and quiet, dignified assistance for families and individuals navigating difficult periods.
Community in pictures
Our work is made of evenings like these — neighbours gathering around food, conversation and belonging. These photographs are from a recent community meal hosted by our volunteers.

Trust
Non-profit work runs on trust. Here is what stands behind ours.
We are a registered association (rekisteröity yhdistys / ry) entered in the PRH Register of Associations, Registration No. 30664502 — a legal status that carries real obligations and real accountability.
An elected board, annual meetings, audited accounts and public activity reporting in line with the Finnish Associations Act (Yhdistyslaki).
Our work is carried by more than a hundred volunteers — teachers, students, retirees and professionals — who give their time because the cause is theirs too.
